State of Art of Italian Partnership in NANoREG Project and the Link with ProSafe Coordination Action

Hall 216 Thursday 26th- Afternoon (h. 14.00)

WORKSHOP

NANOREGProsafe

The Italian partnership within the FP7 NANoREG project encompasses 5 partners (CNR, ENEA, IIT, ISS, VN) and 3 third parties (UniTO, UniTorVergata, INAIL), committed in different activities that cover all the project pillars. The Ministero della Salute acts as National Coordinator. We present here some results obtained and the challenges encountered during the first 24 months. ISS and VN are also involved in the ProSafe Coordination Action that will utilize many of the results produced by NANoREG and other NanoEuropean activities (FP7 projects and OECD Sponsor Programme).

Background of the project

NANoREG – A common European approach to the regulatory testing of Manufactured Nanomaterials is the first FP7 project aiming to deliver the answers needed by industry, regulators and legislators to questions related to nanomaterials’ (NMs) environmental, health and safety by linking them to a scientific evaluation of data and test methods. The interdisciplinary approach involving the three main stakeholders (Regulation, Industry and Science) will significantly contribute to reducing the risks from NMs in industrial and consumer products.

The Italian partnership within the NANoREG project consortium encompasses 5 partners (CNR, ENEA, IIT, ISS, VN) and 3 third parties (UniTO, UniTorVergata, INAIL), committed in different activities that together cover all the project pillars: scientific answers to regulatory questions; synthesis and characterization; in vivo studies; in vitro studies; safe by design; liaisons, dissemination and exploitation.

The Ministero della Salute, acting as National Coordinator (NC), supports this process both at the national and at the European level.

ISS and Veneto Nanotech are also involved in the H2020 ProSafe Coordination Action – Promoting the Implementation of Safe by Design that will evaluate and integrate many of the results produced by NANoREG and other NanoEuropean activities (FP7 projects and OECD Sponsor Programme).

In the present Workshop the preliminary results obtained and the challenges encountered during the first 18 months of NANoREG project by the Italian partnership will be presented as well as the main oblectives of ProSafe Coordination Action.
